We just returned from the long trip back from Hampden-Sydney. It was nice to see everyone who made the trip and to mingle with the Richmond area alums. The following posts recap Saturday's game:

Sturges Reaches Milestone, But Football Falls at Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Senior tailback Tom Sturges (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) became Gettysburg’s fifth career 3,000-yard rusher, but the Bullets suffered a 54-7 loss to host Hampden-Sydney College in non-conference football action Saturday afternoon.
Sturges, who finished with 74 yards on 21 rushes, reached the milestone on his 12th carry, a 1-yard gain early in the second quarter that gave him exactly 3,000 yards. He is fifth on Gettysburg’s all-time list with 3,036 yards and is the first Bullet to reach the 3,000-mark since Paul Smith ’00 in 1998.
The Tigers (1-1), who piled up 514 yards of total offense, raced to a 33-0 halftime advantage, capped by a 39-yard Hail-Mary touchdown pass on the final play of the half.
Corey Sedlar led Hampden-Sydney with 258 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-34 passing. Drew Smith caught eight passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.
Sophomore quarterback Matt Flynn (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) threw for 198 yards on 20-of-40 passing for Gettysburg (1-1). He passed for one touchdown and two interceptions.
Sophomore halfback Ricky Manigat (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) caught seven passes for 50 yards.
Hampden-Sydney led just 7-0 at the end of the first quarter before breaking out with 40 points over the second and third quarters.
Turnovers proved to be costly for the Bullets, as four of their five giveaways led to Hampden-Sydney touchdowns. The Tigers did not commit a turnover.
The Bullets scored their lone touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Flynn to senior Matt Welsh (Lafayette Hill, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) with 9:56 left in the game.
Junior defensive end Conor Quinn (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) paced the Bullet defense with 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. Senior linebacker Harold Barton (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) added nine tackles for Gettysburg.
The Bullets play their Centennial Conference opener on Friday, when they visit Johns Hopkins University in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA—Hampden-Sydney College racked up 514 total yards of offense in an impressive 54-7 victory over Gettysburg College on Saturday at Everett Stadium. Sophomore quarterback Corey Sedlar (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) threw four touchdown passes in the winning effort. With the victory, Hampden-Sydney improves to 1-1 on the season, while the Bullets fall to 1-1.
Hampden-Sydney tallied 224 yards on the ground and 290 yards in the air as the Tigers cruised past Gettysburg. Hampden-Sydney was led by senior running back Andy Lawrence (Towson, MD/Loyola) who led the team with 67 yards rushing on nine carries, while junior receiver Zach Miller (Lebanon, VA/Lebanon) ran for 51 yards on two carries and two scores. Tom Sturges led the Bullets as he surpassed the 3,000 yard rushing barrier with 74 yards on 21 carries.
In the first quarter, Hampden-Sydney's Justin Curtis (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin) put the Tigers on the scoreboard as he scored from two yards out to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead at the 6:42 mark. One minute into the second quarter, Miller scored on a 45-yard reverse to increase the Tiger lead to 14-0.
Leading the Bullets by a score of 26-0, Sedlar found Drew Smith (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) for a 39-yard touchdown strike with no time remaining, giving the home team a 33-0 halftime advantage.
Josh Baumgartner (Vinton, VA/William Byrd) increased the Tiger lead as he caught a ten yard touchdown pass, making the score 40-0 with 9:35 remaining in the third quarter. Finishing up the Tiger scoring was freshman running back Drew Walker (Midlothian, VA/Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot) as he ran for a 53-yard touchdown, making the score, 54-0.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Bullets scored their lone touchdown as Matt Flynn found wide receiver Matt Welsh for a 24 touchdown pass with 9:56 remaining in the game. The Tigers held the ball for the final four minutes of the game, securing a 54-7 win, and posting the largest margin of victory in series history.
Sedlar completed 23-of-34 passes for 258 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, while Gettysburg's Matt Flynn completed 20-of-40 passes for 198 yards, two interceptions and one touchdown.
The Tiger defense was led by defensive lineman William Riggenbach (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) with eight tackles, while Mark Henson (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes), Boaz Young-el (Hopewell, VA/Prince George), and Jamie Edlow (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) each recorded seven stops. The Tigers forced five turnovers, including interceptions by Edlow and Kyle Booker (Gloucester, VA/Fork Union). Gettysburg's Conor Quinn led the Bullets with a game-high 11 tackles.
