Parents Club Week 2 Newsletter

The following newsletter was sent out to Parents Club members today:

Dear Gettysburg College Football and Cheerleading Parents,

Following an action packed game and convincing victory against Lebanon Valley College, the 2007 Bullets travel to Hampden-Sydney College. Hampden-Sydney will be looking to avenge a 17-16 opening game home loss to Johns Hopkins as well as last years game 2 loss at Gettysburg.

DIRECTIONS / VENUE: Directions to Hampden-Sydney are located at: http://www.hsc.edu/visitors/ HSC, at least in the past, has not charged an admission fee to the game but does charge a few dollars to each car parking for the game on the campus.

ACCOMODATIONS: A list of nearby hotels are listed on the Hampden-Sydney Website: http://www2.hsc.edu/visitors/accomodations.html

Here is some information regarding a place to stay in Virginia and a restaurant to eat at.

This Hotel is 10 min. from the college:

Hampton Inn in Farmville
300 Sunchase Blvd.
Farmville, VA 23901

434-392-8826

http://www.farmvillehampton.com/

This is a good restaurant in the area

Charley's Waterfront Cafe
201 Mill St. #B
Farmville, VA 23901

434-392-1566

They take reservations if you have 8 people or more.

TAILGATING NOTES: As with all away games, all tailgating this weekend is 100% “bring your own.” If you can make it early enough to tailgate with other GC families, after you enter the campus continue past the stadium and make two left turns to the lower parking area (toward the visitors stands) and look for the car flags from other GC families attending the game. It’s pretty tough to get together there.

LAST SATURDAY’S TAILGATE: Thank you all for the great start to this season’s Tailgates – especially to the Junior and Senior parents who contributed to “pot luck” food for all. Thanks also to everyone who helped with the set-up, clean-up, music, 50-50 raffle, etc. The tailgates would not be successful if it wasn’t for your help! Now that our new members have seen how things can be, we are hoping to carry through with this strong start. Please note, the post-game tailgate is meant to feed the players and cheerleaders first We ask that all parents please refrain from helping themselves to the buffet until the players and cheerleaders have had a chance to go through the line. Also another reminder, the soda and water in the coolers is provided for the players and cheerleaders only! Please be sure to bring enough beverages for yourself and your guests.

VOLUNTEERS: We are hoping more folks will help out with merchandise sales, clean- up and food contributions at the next home Tailgate (September 22) - Sophomore families are specifically assigned, but all are encouraged to contribute some food or drinks (a potluck item to serve 10 –15 people is suggested).

BULLETS MERCHANDISE

A list of Bullets football merchandise is enclosed, along with an order form. These items are not available anywhere else and can be custom embroidered with your student’s name or number. In order to make several items available, keep costs down and avoid inventory problems, orders must be accompanied by payment. Merchandise orders will generally be available for pickup at the next home game. See the enclosed order form for more details.

MEMBERSHIP

Thank you to those who have sent in their membership forms and dues – the response has been excellent. For those who have not yet done so, please send in your form and check as soon as possible (form attached). [Please note: anyone for whom the membership dues are a hardship can just send in a form without a dues payment and you will be added to the membership, no questions asked; also if you do not have email, state that on your Membership Form and we will mail all communications to you].

ACTION PHOTOS

Once again, Bill Dowling, a local professional photographer, will be taking action photos of the players and cheerleaders. Be sure to visit his Website (http://www.dowlingphoto.com/mp_includes/index.asp), browse, and feel free to purchase his photos. A portion of the proceeds go to the GCFPC.

Let’s fill the visitor’s bleachers with blue and orange this weekend and support our Bullets to victory!

GO BULLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
