GCFPC WEEKLY UPDATE – Gettysburg v. Denison

GCFPC WEEKLY UPDATE – Gettysburg v. Denison

The Bullets return home this Saturday to meet the Big Red of Denison University. On what is supposed to be a beautiful day, Gettysburg looks to avenge a loss in Granville last year and build momentum going into the bye week and the start of Centennial Conference play.

TAILGATING: The home game pre- and post-game Tailgates will resume on Saturday at the Pavilion next to Quarry Lake (at the stadium end of Lincoln Avenue, turn right to the gravel parking lot near the covered pavilion). We will start gathering at about 10:45 a.m. and close things down for the games by 12:45 p.m. (game time is 1:00). The Parents Club will furnish some hot and cold finger food before the game (arriving at 11:15 a.m.), but each family should plan to provide their own basic food and drinks for the day. And a piece of good news: the port toilet should be back at the Pavillion this week(!).

Tailgating will also take place after the home games at the Pavilion from approximately 4:00 p.m. into the evening. The players are invited after the games, and the Parents Club will provide some additional food for all and drinks for the players. Other than drinks for players after the game, beverages of choice are BYO. While alcohol may be consumed by adults at the Pavilion, you must be aware that GC Safety and Security, as well as Gettysburg Borough Police, WILL enforce alcohol laws anywhere else on campus. It would be very unfortunate for someone to be cited for an “open container” violation while walking to the Stadium or elsewhere on campus. This is a serious issue that all should heed.

This week, Sophomore parents are asked to bring food/drinks to share, although other contributions certainly would be appreciated. Please place your “community” food items on the tables along the side of the pavilion. Your contribution can be for before or after the game.

There are no set “rules” for what to bring as a potluck contribution, although some class representatives may try to bring some more organization as to who brings what. However, generally the potlucks are ad hoc, with families bringing enough of an item to feed about 10 – 15 people, depending on the nature of the item(s). In the past, families have brought three- or five-foot subs, crock pot food, fresh pretzels from Philadelphia, pizza, desserts, sausage or meatball sandwiches, etc., etc. Feel free to use you imagination. Potluck food can be served at the pre and/or post game Tailgates. The food is placed at several long tables in the Pavilion and is available to all once it is on the tables. N.B.: The drinks provided by the Parents Club in coolers after the games are for the players and cheerleaders only.

This is a potluck, not a catered event, so it is best not to rely solely on the food, place settings, etc. provided by the Club and the potluck contributors to totally feed your family. These items are meant to supplement what you might want to bring for your own personal Tailgate wants.

If you are unable to make it to your “assigned” game, please contribute at any other game you attend. Also, many families routinely contribute voluntarily to the potluck at several or all games – we certainly appreciate that extra effort!

The rest of the season’s Tailgate food contribution schedule is as follows:

October 14th Freshman Parents – families with last names starting in “A” though “L”

October 21st (Family Weekend) -- Food furnished by the College at the rear of the stadium before the game. Tailgate food is all BYO

November 11th Freshmen Parents – families with last names starting in “M” though “Z”

MEMBERSHIP: The response to Membership has been terrific. If you haven’t yet sent in your form and dues for membership in the Gettysburg College Football Parents Club, please do so now!

BULLETS MERCHANDISE: Orders placed by this past Tuesday should be available for pick up this Saturday (at the Bullets Merchandise Order Table). There will be a Bullets football merchandise table at the Tailgate this week and at all home games. A very limited quantity of merchandise will be available for purchase, but pre-orders are the norm. You can place a pre-order at this week’s game or request a merchandise list / order form by email. Orders this week will be filled for the next home game.

Volunteers Needed: We are looking for parents willing to work a half-hour or so “shift” at the Merchandise Table during the tailgates (pre- or posr-game). We would like to have enough people volunteer that we can assign each person just two or so half-hour shifts over the next four home games. Please respond to this email or to GCFPC2006@Gmail.com if you can help us. Thanks.

ACTION PHOTOS: Bill Dowling, a professional photographer, has agreed again this year to take action photos of players and cheerleaders at each home game. Each week, Bill’s photos will appear on his website (www.dowlingphoto.com) and can be ordered for very reasonable prices (5x7 @ $11; 8x10 @ $16; 11x14 @ $27). Bill’s website is easy to navigate (start with “Bullets Football” on the right margin of his home page). We expect that every player and cheerleader will appear on the website during the season for that special picture.

ALUMNI FAMILIES - Please feel comfortable to join us at any Bullets game. Let us know if you want to sign up as an alumni member of the GCFPC (dues are only $20).
