LANCASTER, Pa. - Junior tailback Tom Sturges (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) has been named Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week in an announcement made by the conference on Sunday. Sturges ran for 174 yards on 26 carries and scored a 32-yard touchdown that gave Gettysburg the lead for good in a 28-20 win over Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Sturges is the conference's offensive player of the week for the fifth time in his career, having earned the honor four times in 2005.

Senior linebacker Harold Barton (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) and senior punter Ryan Dunn (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) were also named to the CC weekly honor roll for their role in Gettysburg's first win over Hampden-Sydney since 1997. Barton intercepted a pass late in the first quarter and returned it 19 yards to the Hampden-Sydney one yard line, setting up the Bullets' first touchdown which tied the game 7-7. He also recorded five tackles on the day. Dunn punted nine times for 283 yards, averaging 31.4 yards per kick. He had three punts downed inside the Tigers' 20 yard line, including those that began Hampden-Sydney's last two possessions of the game. The visitors started those drives at their own 13 and 18, respectively.

Sturges, who also returned one kick for 30 yards, eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the eighth time in his career and the first time in 2006. He and senior halfback Dusty Green (Idaville, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who ran 11 times for 126 yards became the first Bullet teammates in four years to each go over 100 yards rushing in the same game. Sturges and Green led Gettysburg to its first 300-yard rushing day since 2003.

For the season, Sturges has 203 yards on 40 carries for a 5.1 yards per carry average. He and Green rank fourth and fifth, respectively, in the conference in rushing yards per game. Sturges is averaging 101.5 yards per outing, with Green contributing another 87.0 yards per game on the ground. Sturges now has 1,804 yards for his career, leaving him just 196 yards short of becoming the Bullets' seventh 2,000-yard career rusher.

Gettysburg will return to action on Saturday when the Bullets hit the road for 12 p.m. game at Rochester.
