Gettysburg’s Schmidt named CC Defensive Player of the Week

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Michael Schmidt (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), a member of the Gettysburg College football team, has been named the Centennial Conference (CC) Defensive Player of the Week for games of Oct. 29.

Schmidt, a senior linebacker, was all over the field in the Bullets’ 10-3 win over Muhlenberg on Saturday. He recorded a season-high 16 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, and spear-headed a defense that held the Mules to 209 total yards and their lowest point total against Gettysburg in 23 CC meetings.

Entering the season’s final two weeks, Schmidt ranks third on the team with 59 total tackles, including 33 solo stops, 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has also recorded one interception and broken up two passes. He is tied for 12th in the CC with 7.4 tackles per game.

Gettysburg (3-5, 2-2 CC) returns to action on Saturday at home against Dickinson (3-5, 2-2 CC). Game time is 1 p.m.
